Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of a wireless non-contact radio system to transfer data for the purposes of automatic identification and tracking. An RFID system comprises of a transponder, a transmit-receiver and an IT system. The key element is the transponder, called tag. These tags contain at least two parts: an integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulating and demodulating a radio-frequency signal, collecting power from the incident reader signal, and other specialized functions, as well as an antenna for receiving and transmitting the signal.

Royal Tag has its own research centre and has developed many advanced material and production technologies. The company is focussing on passive tags (no on-board battery) with low, high and ultra high frequency technology.

Royal Tag makes its specialist knowledge available to supervisory authorities, national testing and certification bodies and universities.
